SINGAPORE AIRLINES TO OFFER "WIDEST SELECTION OF BURGUNDY WINES IN SKY"

By Susan Lewis

26-3-2019

Singapore Airlines is adding an extensive selection of artisan wines to its in-flight wine menu including 47 labels of crafty Burgundy wines. It is claimed to be the widest selection of Burgundy wines in the sky.

The selection is a result of personal visits to vineyards by the airline’s wine consultants - Michael Hill-Smith MW, Jeannie Cho Lee MW and renowned British wine expert Oz Clarke – who focused on selecting crafty small-batch wines.

Passengers boarding the airline’s premium cabins will be offered the new wine menu with the 47 Burgundian labels which will be rotated every two months over an 18-month period.

“Customers can look forward to a new and exciting label delivered on board every two months,” said Betty Wong, Singapore Airlines’ divisional vice president of in-flight services.

“During our wine consultants’ visits to the vineyards, we also actively sought out smaller maisons and domaines to bring them into the Singapore Airlines family, thus allowing us to expand the depth and range of our offerings, and satisfy the rising demand for more exclusive Burgundy labels.”

The final list includes exclusive Grand Cru and Premier Cru labels from Faiveley, Benjamin Leroux, Domaine D’Ardhuy and Domaine de Montille.

Singapore Airlines’ existing wine offering is rather noteworthy. The carrier won a silver medal in the Best First Class Sparkling category in the recent “Cellars in the Sky” wine awards for its offering of Dom Perignon 2006 Champagne.

Singapore Airlines is not the only Asian airline which have revamped their on-flight wine menu recently.

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific added Chateau Montrose’s 2005 vintage to its first class wine list late last year, along with a number of other fine wines.

Earlier this month, Japan Airlines (JAL) also revamped its first class wine list, among the new offerings are Salon 2007 Champagne and Chateau Lagrange 2013 Bordeaux.
