The world's leading sparkling wine producer and distributor, Germany’s Henkell & Co Global, will announce the opening of its online official flagship store on China’s Tmall Platform on 29th May during the 20th Vinexpo in Hong Kong.

Tmall is a domestic Chinese retail platform run by online sales giant Alibaba.com. The official flagship store will allow the sparkling wines world leader direct access to Chinese customers.

It will also provide Chinese sparkling wine lovers with an authoritative and honest platform to purchase a wide-ranging styles of sparkling wines.

Henkell owns more than 60 brands of sparkling wines and is selling to more than 120 countries around the world. The company has an annual output of some 200 million bottles.

The Henkell owned brands spread across almost all sparkling wine styles, including German speciality Sekt, Italy's Prosecco, Spain's Cava, French Champagne and Cremant. Among these brands are Cava and Champagne producer Freixenet and the German arm of Mumm Champagne GH von Mumm.

The demand for sparkling wines has seen rapid increase in China in recent years. In 2007, China only imported about 300,000 cases of sparkling wines. Five years later in 2012, the import volume more than doubled to 650,000 cases.

Alibaba.com is keen to expand its online wine sales platform. Its founder Ma Yun announced last month that an online wine event will be held on Tmall on 9 September to introduce more global wine styles to Chinese consumers.
