You don’t have to go to Chengdu to attend this year’s China Food & Drinks Fair, the show’s organiser announced today that the 2020 show will take place online in July with the help from Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.
In a statement issued today, the 2020 show’s organising committee said this year’s Chengdu show will be held online from 28 to 30 July.
The statement said China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba will work with them to provide a platform where real-time marketing, product exhibitions, businesses matching and price negotiations will be able to be conducted online.
If the new online format proved to be workable, it could be a game changer in the global wine show industry which has been severely disrupted by the COVID-19 crisis.
The statement also said the decision is inline with the Chinese government’s efforts to avoid a second wave of coronavirus infections.
The organiser said they will contact exhibitors and visitors shortly to provide them further details on how to prepare for the online show.
Under encouragement from the government, China’s wine industry has responded swiftly to take marketing online. Major wine producing regions including Ningxia and Yantai have recently held high profile online promotional activities.
The 2020 China Food & Drinks Exhibition was originally scheduled from 26 to 28 March, but was postponed to 21 to 23 May due to COVID-19.
The organiser announced again in April that the show will not take place in May. Today, it’s announced that the show will be conducted online in July.
