Top Bordeaux wines remained the most searched wines by Asian consumers in April 2020, showing that the COVID-19 pandemic has not changed Asian wine lovers’ penchant for the French fine wine, said a report by the popular wine search website wine-searcher.com.

Wine-searcher.com has recently compiled a list of the 10 most searched wines by Asian consumers in April this year when the world was deeply marred by the coronavirus crisis.

The list shows that Asian wine lovers had fixed their eyes firmly on the top wines from Bordeaux despite that the new virus has wrecked havoc around the world.

Ten most searched wines by Asian consumers in April 2020:
1. Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
2. Château Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac
3. Château Latour, Pauillac
4. Château Margaux, Margaux
5. Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
6. Château Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
7. Château Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
8. Dom Pérignon Brut, Champagne
9. Petrus, Pomerol
10. Château Léoville-Las Cases Grand Vin de Léoville, Saint-Julien

The website also compared the April list to the 10 most searched wines by Asian consumers in the past 12 months (below), and found that the coronavirus pandemic has done very little to change Asian consumers' penchant for the fine wines from Bordeaux.

Ten most searched wines by Asian consumers in past 12 months:
1. Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
2. Château Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac
3. Château Margaux, Margaux
4. Château Latour, Pauillac
5. Echo de Lynch Bages Château Haut-Bages Averous, Pauillac
6. Château Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
7. Château Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
8. Château Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
9. Petrus, Pomerol
10. Château Léoville-Las Cases Grand Vin de Léoville, Saint-Julien

The report noted that the two lists are almost identical saved for some variations in the rankings.

The only obvious difference is the presence of Dom Pérignon and the omission of Echo de Lynch Bages on the April list.

Perhaps Asian consumers needed some bubblies to cheer themselves during the peak of the pandemic.

By Asian consumers, Wine-searcher was referring to consumers in the wine markets of China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Japan.

Indian consumers were not included because most searches conducted by them are related to whiskies but not wines.
