India’s leading wine producer Sula Vineyards will export wines to Singapore with an aim to expand to Southeast Asian markets.
The winery will partner with Sonnamera, a food and drinks importer and distributor, according to the Indian business media the Financial Express.
Under the partnership, Sonnamera will be distributing Sula wines through e-commerce platforms, as well as Indian restaurants and retail outlets such as NTUC FairPrice, Redmart and other channels.
Rajeev Samant, Founder and CEO of Sula Vineyards, told Financial Express: “Singapore is a thriving wine hub. The Singaporean consumer now has the choice of experiencing robust flavours of our wines.”
Abhay Sharm, Founder of Sonnamera, said: “Over the past few months, with the outbreak of Covid-19, the off-premise consumption of wine has driven rapid growth in the category and we expect this trend to continue to be strong for several months as more meals are cooked at home and home entertaining takes precedence over dining out.”
Based in the wine producing area of Nashik, a mountainous area 167km to the Northwest of Mumbai, Sula Vineyards currently has over 60 percent of market share in the Indian domestic wine market.
As of 2019, Sula wines have presence in over 30 export markets globally including USA, UK, Germany, China, Italy and Spain.
The winery has added Australia to its export list earlier this year before Singapore.
