Drinks distributor Alchemy Spirits Thailand supported by Tito's Vodka have created BARZ, a non-profit charitable organization, with an aim to help Thai bartenders and pub workers whose livelihoods have been affected by COVID-19 lockdown.

“Our hearts are breaking for our friends, our partners, and the communities affected by this pandemic. We understand times have been rough, this is why we have created BARZ. Supported by Tito’s, who has pledged to match 1 to 1 every Thai Baht raised before and during the event, to help those in need during these unparalleled times,” Alchemy Spirits Thailand said in a statement.

BARZ will hold a charity event called Bangkok Bartender Bazaar on 13 September. About 20 vendors will take part in the flea market like charity event where guests can eat, drink and shop for food, handicrafts, clothes and housewares.

Half of the proceeds will go to support Thai bartenders, waiters, chefs who have been affected by COVID-19 restriction measures that continue today in Thailand.

The market will be held outside the Philtration pub on Kasem San Soi 3 just five minutes walk from BTS National Stadium, those who want some booze can buy drinks from the pub on special prices sponsored by Tito’s Vodka.

The event will start from 5pm on 13 September. Admission is free, payment will be cash only, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own bags.

Thai pub workers can apply for Tito’s support if they meet the following criteria:
1) Recent loss of bartending job due to COVID-19
2) Leave without pay due to COVID-19
3) Salary cut due to COVID-19
4) Economic, health and family difficulties (sign up here)

Many of Thailand’s pub workers lost their jobs or took pay cuts when bars were shut over three months from March due to the pandemic. Until this day, bars still have to observe restrictions such as closing before midnight.
