Tables at Singapore Airlines’ pop-up restaurant in grounded A380 jets were sold out within half an hour after bookings open today.

Dubbed A380@Changi, the pop-up service will take place on 24 and 25 October when two A380 passenger jets will be turned into restaurants serving lunch menus to the lucky guests who managed to book a place.

Customers can pay with frequent-flyer miles, the airline has opened a wait list due to strong demand.

Four cabin classes are available. The most expensive meals in first-class cost SGD642 (USD441) per person, while seats in business class are going for SGD321 and then dropping to SGD96.30 for premium economy and SGD53.50 for economy.

Each class has its choice of special menus, options include the airline’s signature international cuisine, as well as its special Peranakan menu designed by acclaimed Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.

To complete the experience, the airlines’ air sommeliers will recommend fine wines to accompany the meals. Each meal comes with two complimentary alcoholic drinks and free flow of other beverages.

The largest models of the Airbus A380 can normally seat up to 471 passengers, but only about half the aircraft's seats will be available for booking because of social distancing measures.

Guests will have to bring their passports because getting to the grounded A380s requires clearing at Changi Airport's passenger terminal.

Guests will also be subject to a range of COVID safety measures, including temperature checks on arrival, and mandatory face masks all times, apart from when eating and drinking.

Diners have the option to book an exclusive pre-meal tour, which includes normally forbidden areas such as the cockpit.

Interested guests who did not manage to book the pop-up service can order delivery of the airline’s signature meals to enjoy at home.

Still available on Singapore Airlines’ Krisshop.com website with prices ranging from SGD258 to SGD888 for two persons, guests can choose from 10 menus featuring the airline’s first class and business class dishes which will complete with a bottle of wine or champagne and other amenities dependant on the package ordered.
