France resumed its position as the top source of China’s imported wines in 2020 while Australia dropped to second place due to the trade tension between Australia and China.
French wines’ market share in China in 2020 was 52.73%, a whopping growth of 29.11 percent point from 23.62% in 2019.
The steep growth in French wines’ market share allows France to lead again in China’s wine market.
Australia came second in 2020 with market share of 25.82%, according to data from China’s statistics bureau.
France had always been China’s top source of imported wines until 2019 when Australia overtook to become the leader.
Australian wines’ market share in China in 2019 was 40.78%. This means the trade tension with China has cost Australia 14.96 percent point market share in China.
Chile was in third place in 2020 with market share of 8.02%, Italy in fourth place with 3.64% and Spain in fifth place with 3.46%.
