Domaines Barons de Rothschild (DBR) Lafite’s winery in China, Domaine de Long Dai, recently launched Long Dai 2019, which is the third vintage of the domaine’s main label.

The 2019 vintage of Long Dai is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Marselan and 9% Cabernet Franc. The wine is distributed by Pernod Ricard China and will be available to Chinese consumers this month.

The proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the 2019 vintage is higher than the 2018 vintage of 75 %, giving the wine higher level of tannins and more robust structure.

Domaine de Long Dai’s vineyards are planted on granite soil terraces in the the foothills of the Qiushan Valley in Penglai in China’s northeastern Shandong province.

According to Olivier Trégoat, Technical Director of DBR Lafite, the climate condition in 2019 in Shangdong Province was hot and dry, the resultant wine has very high fruit concentration, its has high yet elegant tannin giving the wine a robust structure yet with finesse.

Denise Cosentino, Technical Director of Domaine de Long Dai, said irrigation was needed in June to make sure the fruits will be ripen enough.

Harvesting was done by hand in successive yet intensive pickings between 21 September abd 18 October. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels from DBR Lafite's own cooperage in the Pauillac region of Bordeaux.

The winery said Long Dai 2019 is a big wine with deep colour, with ripe black fruit aromas and obvious spice signature. It is a very good expression of the unique terroir where the vineyards are planted.

DBR Lafite started this China project in 2008 in the southern edge of Penglai city in Shandong province.

After 11 years of preparation, the inaugural 2017 vintage of Long Dai was released in September 2018.
