Wine Australia announced that it will cancel this year’s China Roadshow and the organisation will not be participating in the Chengdu TWC Fine Wine Showcase to be held in Chengdu in March 2021, citing ongoing travel restrictions and China’s punitive tariffs on Australian wines as reasons.
The Australian wine trade body said on their website that they are very disappointed to have to cancel the annual China Roadshow, which was originally scheduled in May.
The last Wine Australia China Roadshow was held in 2019, last year's event was cancelled due to COVID-19.
The organisation also said if individual Australian wineries are still interested in participating in the Chengdu TWC Fine Wine Showcase, they are happy to help liaise with the organiser.
The Chengdu TWC Fine Wine Showcase - to be held from 21 to 24 March - is part of the annual Chengdu China Food & Drinks Fair (CFDF) scheduled on 26 to 28 March. It is a series of satellite shows held in the city’s main hotels four days prior to the main fair’s opening at the Western China International Expo City.
The Chengdu CFDF is the largest drinks show in China, attracting over 300,000 visitors from China and beyond.
Wine Australia did not mention on their website whether it will participate in the Chengdu CFDF main show this year, but Chinese media reports said the trade body will be absent in both the main and the satellite shows.
