REPORT: CHINA AND ASIA REMAIN WORLD’S TOP BEER CONSUMING COUNTRY AND REGION

China remains world’s largest beer consuming country in 2019 for the 17th consecutive year, while Asia remains top consuming region 12 years in a row, according to the latest Global Beer Consumption Report by Kirin Beer University.
The report said global beer consumption topped 189.05 billion litres in 2019, up 0.5% from the previous year.
The Asia region remains the world’s biggest beer consuming region, consumption grew slightly by 0.7% in 2019 compared to the year before, representing a 33 percent share of the global beer market.
Within Asia, China alone accounts for 20.9 percent share of the global beer consumption. While beer consumption declined in 2019 in China by 0.4 percent, it remains the world’s largest beer market, a mantle it has held since 2003.
Japan is the second largest consumer in the Asian region, and seventh largest in the world. Beer consumption in Japan declined 1.4 percent in 2019.
Vietnam is Asia’s third biggest beer consumer with consumption up 3.4 percent in 2019, India in fourth place up 3.1 percent and the Philippines in fifth place in Asia up 5.1 percent.

Outside of Asia, the USA is the world’s second largest beer consumer after China in 2019, though consumption there declined by 0.5 percent.
Brazil is world’s third biggest beer market in 2019, followed by Mexico, Russia and Germany.
Europe as a whole is world’s second biggest beer consumer by region with a market share of 26.4 percent in 2019. Europe’s Czech Republic has world’s highest per capita beer consumption at 188.6 litres per person per annum.
