CHINA'S NINGXIA REGION WINE EXPORTS INCREASED 75.48% IN H1 2021

Export of wines from China's Ningxia wine region has increased 75.48 percent in first half of 2021 to RMB3.65 million (USD 0.57 million) by value, according to statistics released by local customs office.
This compared to RMB2.65million wine exports achieved by the region in the whole of 2020.
Though still a niche trade, the main export markets are the the European Union, United States and Japan.
Some 30 wineries in the region were said to have registered for exports, among them 10 have been exporting wines all year round.
Terroir driven boutique winery Silver Heights is the leading exporter, accounting for over 61 percent of Ningxia’s wine export value, according to data of Ningxia Wine Bureau.
Data showed that Silver Heights exported RMB 1.64 million worth of wines in 2020, representing 61.88% of Ningxia’s total wine export value in the year.
Local Chinese media quoted Silver Heights exports manager Wang Yu as saying that Ningxi’S local customs officials have extended significant help to speed up the export process which had been delayed by the pandemic.
The Chinese government has big ambitions in the Ningxia wine region. In a drive led by government, Ningxia is planning to expand wine production to 600 million bottles annually worth RMB 200 billion ( USD31.3 billion) by 2035.
If materialised, this ambitious plan will bring Ningxi’s wine production value to 8 times that of France’s Bordeaux region which is currently producing 3.5 billion Euros (USD4.16 billion) of wines a year.
Ningxia currently has 211 wineries with annual production of 130 million bottles. Among them 92 wineries are operating and 119 are under construction.
