ONLINE WINE ORDERS JUMPED IN SOUTH KOREA AS OLYMPICS BEGAN

South Korean consumers ordered more wines as Tokyo Olympics began, according to a report in Korea Bizwire.
The news agency said convenience stores have begun offering discounts for wine and liquor with the start of the Tokyo Olympics.
Unlike in the past, customers have recently begun looking for wines as well as liquors and beers.
E-Mart24 Inc. reported a 46 percent increase in beer sales on Thursday when the South Korean men’s national football team had its first match.
Sales of wine and liquor jumped by 36 percent, outpacing that of makgeolli (Korean rice wine) at 19 percent and soju at 17 percent.
Meanwhile, official import data showed that South Korean consumers continue their switch to wines as their choice of alcoholic drinks.
According to data from South Korean customs, the country imported a total of USD280 million worth of wines in the first half of 2021, representing a 108 percent increase from the same period last year,.
Between January and March this year, South Korea imported USD109.7million worth of wine, up 115.4 percent from a year earlier.
France remained its top source of imported wine, the trade is worth USD83.6 million between January and June, increasing by 132 percent year on year.
USA came second, a total USD48 million worth of wines were bought during this period by South Korea representing an increase of 97 percent.
The value of imported Italian wines more than doubled to USD44.4 million.
In the same period, South Korea also imported 64 percent more Chilean wines worth USD41.5 million and 96 percent more from Spain worth USD21.8 million.
