RECORD-BREAKING DALMORE COLLECTION SOLD TO AN ASIAN COLLECTOR FOR USD1.1M

A rare collection of six Highland single malts from The Dalmore was sold at a record HKD8.75 million (USD1.1 million) at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong, 60% higher than the estimate.
Bidders from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the UK competed for the unique collection, an Asian private collector outbid others to take the bottles home.
The distinctive Dalmore Decades No.6 Collection includes one bottle distilled in each of the six decades between 1950s and 2000s, in years 1951, 1967, 1979, 1980, 1995 and 2000 respectively.
It represented the highest value for a whisky lot ever sold by Sotheby’s in Asia and the most valuable sold at Sotheby’s so far this year.
Jonny Fowle, Sotheby’s spirits specialist, said: “The Dalmore is truly an icon of the whisky world, and this collection encapsulates everything that the Distillery stands for.”
“In today’s premium whisky market, it also encapsulates the key elements sought after by collectors. Representing yet another benchmark, the result speaks volumes of the strong global demand we have seen over the past two years.”
The Dalmore will donate £100,000 (USD136,000) from the sale to Scotland’s first design museum, V&A Dundee, as part of a four-year partnership with the institution.
