SURVEY: KOREANS CONSUME ALCOHOL LESS FREQUENTLY BUT DRINKING MORE EACH TIME

The average Korean consumed alcohol less frequently last year compared to the year before, but were drinking a bit more each time, according to Yonhap News Agency quoting an industry survey.
The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. conducted a survey of 2,000 men and women between the ages of 19 and 59, results showed that Korean consumers drank alcohol on 8.5 days per month on average in 2021, down from the previous year’s 9 days.
The average amount of alcohol consumed was seven cups a day, the highest amount since 2017 at 6.9 cups.
The survey found that 42.2 percent of respondents preferred beer, 25.4 percent drank diluted soju, 20 percent preferred traditional liquor, 5.4 percent consumed mixed drinks, while only 3.4 percent drank imported wines.
The survey also showed that the proportion of consumers preferred beer rose by 0.8 percentage points from last year while those preferred soju dropped by 7.3 percentage points.
