Paris-based popular wine dealer and auctioneer iDealwine, which has offices in London and Hong Kong, has suffered a serious cyberattack in which some data of their 650,000 customers have been compromised.

The company website is still offline at the time of publication. A message said that the website is halted because of security reasons following a cyberattack. It also said they are working hard to restore service as soon as possible.

iDealwine has earlier informed its customers that their name, address, telephone number and email address may have been compromised. But credit card and bank information has not been compromised because they are not stored on company servers.

According to the notification, customers’ passwords, which are encrypted, have also not been compromised, but the company suggested customers to change their passwords and beware of unexpected emails and unsolicited phone calls, “especially if they claim to come from iDealwine or its partners”.

“Do not open emails or attachments if you have any doubts about their source, and do not click on any links you are unsure of. Please contact us if you have any doubts or questions, our team is fully mobilised to assist you,“ the company added.

The company also revealed it has contacted experts to deal with the issue, as well as the data privacy regulators in France and UK. iDealwine welcomes bids from all over the world for their wine auctions and ships to the EU, UK, US, Hong Kong, Singapore, and many more countries.

It is not known how many affected customers are based in Asia, but iDealwine said it has over 650,000 customers in more than 60 countries. Apart from auctions and fixed-price sales, the company is also involved in wine market analysis through its annual Barometer publication.
