Seven restaurants in Asia made to the list of World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023. Japan is the biggest winner in Asia with three restaurants on the top 50, while Thailand has two, Singapore and Hong Kong each has one.

Announced in a ceremony held in Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences, the winners this year represent 24 territories in five continents. There are 12 brand-new entries, including the two from Thailand.

Singapore’s Odette is the highest ranking restaurant in Asia in this year’s awards in no. 14.

Bangkok has two entries, Le Du - which has earlier won Asia’s Best Restaurant 2023 - sits at no.15, its fellow Bangkok restaurant Gaggan Anand is in 17th place.

Japan saw 3 entries (Den at no. 21, Florilège at no. 27, and Sézanne at no. 37), Hong Kong has one entry (The Chairman at no. 50).

The top spot went to Central in Lima, making history as it is the very first venue in South America to take the culinary crown.

Central has repeatedly been named Best Restaurant in Latin American since 2014. It is also the first World Best restaurant to be co-run by a female chef, as Central is famously helmed by husband-and-wife duo Virgilio Martínez and Pía León.

Barcelona’s Disfrutar won no.2 spot, Madrid’s Diverxo at no.3, and the Basque country’s Bittor Arquinzoniz at no.4.

World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards is organised by UK-based company William Reed Business Media. The rankings are complied by votes from 1080 industry experts, from chefs to gourmands and restauranteurs from 27 regions around the world.
