INDIA: NASHIK WINE REGION ATTRACTED 25% MORE TOURISTS OVER THE FESTIVE SEASON

Some 100,000 tourists visited India’s Nashik wine region in the last two months of 2023, representing an increase of 25 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
The six prominent wineries in the region have had around 4,000 daily visitors in the last 10 days of December, as thousands arrived in the area to celebrate Christmas and to raise a toast to the New Year.
In 2022, 80,000 tourists visited Nashik wineries in the last two months of the year, among them 50,000 visited in December alone.
Winery owners said they had received bookings months ahead for the 22 to 31 December 2023 period, and they were completely sold out.
Sula Vineyards, the most well known winery in Nashik, has attracted 60 percent of the total footfall. Sula has a total of 104 rooms in Nashik, including 67 inside the winery.
Monit Dhavale, senior vice-president of Sula Vineyards, said many of those tourists who visited them over the festive season have shown substantial knowledge and interests in wine.
“We are noticing rising awareness about wine among tourists, who are now demanding specific grape-wine brands. Moreover, tourists are also preferring to spend the last few days of the end of the year in the resorts due to the good weather,” Dhavale told Times of India.
Apart from Sula Vineyards, other wineries such as Soma, York, Vallonnie, Grover Zampa, Renaissance and Good Drops had also attracted a sizable number of tourists.
Around 40 percent of the tourists came from Mumbai, 20 percent from Pune and other cities in Maharashtra, the remaining 40 percent are from other states of the country.
