The Western Australia (WA) state government is hosting a delegation representing 10 Chinese companies in a 9-day trade visit which will hopefully lead to orders of more premium wines from the wine region.
Lasting from 29 September to 6 October, this is the first Chinese wine trade delegation visiting Western Australia since anti-dumping duties were lifted.
The delegation of 11 wine buyers from 10 companies will focus on premium wines from WA, and will visit Great Southern and Margaret River wine regions this week.
The visit is supported by Australia government's wine export growth partnership program, which aims at helping the country’s wine industry which has faced significant challenges in recent years.
"This trade mission marks the beginning of a re-entry to the Chinese market and is expected to rekindle trade relations and subsequent exports for Grand Southern and Margaret River fine wine producers,” said Don Punch, regional development minister for Western Australia.
“Re-entering the China market can be challenging for producers, so providing the opportunity to connect producers directly to this market again is a worthwhile endeavour,” he added.
Apart from visiting wineries in the Great Southern and Margaret River wine regions, the delegation will also attend masterclasses and trade tastings, as well as embarking on field studies on the unique terroir of the vine growing areas.
