Hitejinro, South Korea's largest soju producer, has begun construction of its first ever overseas production plant in northern Vietnam.
The factory, scheduled to begin production in 2026, will serve as a logistics hub to expand the distillery's Jinro soju brand in the global market, with annual capacity of 5 million cases of soju.
The Vietnam plant is located in the Green i-Park industrial complex in the coastal province of Thai Binh spanning 82,083 sq meter.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place last week attended by Hitejinro CEO Kim In-kyu and Thai Binh General Secretary Nguyen Khac Than.
"Our first overseas production facility in Vietnam will be the starting point for exporting soju overseas," said Hitejinro CEO Kim.
"The Vietnam plant will serve as a springboard for expanding into the global market centred in Southeast Asia, and it will be a crucial turning point in our leap to become a global comprehensive alcoholic beverage company," he added.
Last year, HiteJinro announced its “Global Vision 2030” plan to mark its 100th anniversary. It sets a target of exporting WON500 billion (USD345 million) worth of soju to global markets by 2030.
