After the sudden closure of 1880 Hong Kong on 30 May, 1880 Singapore followed suit and was closed with effect from 17 June 2025.
The club’s founder Marc Nicholson announced in a notice on 16 June to members that 1880 Singapore will close with immediate effect and end all operations.
“Spend and frequency per visit of our members has been trending down. The company needed an injection and some efficiency optimisation,” the club has reportedly written in an email sent to 1880 Singapore members.
“We had three offers to invest in or acquire 1880. Anyone of these would have restored us to health and given a runway to building a global brand. We were however, unsuccessful in getting those offers over the line. With no further funds to pay our staff or suppliers, we have no alternative but to close,” the email revealed.
In addition, the email mentioned its Hong Kong expansion, “We created a brand that earned a reputation that brought opportunities for expansion that I could not resist.”
Of its current status, the notice said that “the club’s holding company 38 Degrees and operating company 1880 have been placed into provisional liquidation, with an upcoming liquidation process and creditors’ meeting to provide further details.”
This closure follows the sudden shutdown of the 1880 Hong Kong outpost on 30 May. The branch only operated for about seven months before its cessation.
A day earlier, on 16 June, 1880 Singapore was still promoting its activities and events happening for the week of 16 to 22 June on its Instagram via stories.
1880 first debuted in Singapore in December 2017 and had its first overseas expansion to Hong Kong in November 2024.
Located at Robertson Quay, Singapore 1880 is a private members’ club which hosts closed-door member-exclusive events and recurring programmes, it is also equipped with member-only facilities like a dedicated co-working space, restaurant, bar, and spa.
