Sales of sparkling wines has seen a staggering 25 percent increased in this year so far, driven by Singapore and Japan.

Singapore has always been a key player in the Asian sparkling wine market, albeit a small country, it is the biggest sparkling wine market in Asia outperforming other major Asian markets like China, Japan and South Korea.

The demand for sparkling wines in Singapore has been spurred by the city state's dynamic nightlife and robust hospitality sector.

Between 2018 and 2023, the sparkling wine market in Singapore registered a compound annual growth rate of 4.5 percent, and in 2023 alone, it saw an 11 percent growth over the previous year.

Champagne is a popular category in Singapore. In terms of brand market share, Charles Heidsieck, Veuve Clicquot, and Moët & Chandon led the pack, with LVMH Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton having the largest market share by volume.

Japan has also been making waves in the sparkling wine market. Canned sparkling wine, in particular, has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity.

In 2023, sales of canned wines in Japan reached ¥3.4 billion (USD21.65 million), approximately 2.5 times the figure in 2017, with sparkling wine sales driving this growth, increasing by 62.8 percent year-on-year.

In 2024, British exports of sparkling wine to Japan witnessed a remarkable 140 percent growth, amounting to over £26m (USD31.2m).

As the Asian market for sparkling wines continues to expand, producers and distributors are looking to further tap into the potential of these two vibrant markets.

With Singapore's high-end consumer base and Japan's evolving drinking habits, the future looks bright for the sparkling wine industry in Asia.
