Penfolds launched its California series in China as it opened its second flagship store in the southwestern city of Chengdu.
Dubbed “Penfolds · Extraordinary Space", the Chengdu store also provides immersive experiences to visiting customers, just like Penfolds’ first flagship store in Shanghai.
Four labels of Penfolds California series were debuted in Chengdu during the launch, they were: 2018 Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 Bin 149 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018 Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2018 Bin 600 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz.

Penfolds said the 2018 Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon has won high scores from various wine critics, including 98 points from James Suckling and 97 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown, editor-in-chief of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
With the launch of the California series in China, Penfolds can continue its presence in China selling premium wines yet avoiding the hefty punitive tariffs imposed on Australian wines.
In 1980s, Penfolds started experimenting with transplanting vine cuttings from its sites in South Australia and planted them in vineyards in California’s Paso Robles area. These vines formed the backbone of Penfolds California series.
Since Penfolds’ owner, Treasury Wines Estate, also owns sister wineries such as Beringer and Sterling in Napa and Sonoma regions, the winemaking team also has access to prime grapes in Napa and Sonoma for use in the California series.
