Organiser of the Chengdu Wine and Spirits Fair, which is the biggest trade show of its kind in China, announced that this year's show will be postponed to 7-9 April from 25-27 March.
China has reported a surge of COVID cases in some northern provinces ahead of Chinese New Year. Though the authorities managed to put the spread under control quickly, rules for large-scale gatherings have been tightened across the whole of China.
The provincial government of Sichuan, where the host city Chengdu situates, had issued a directive in late January banning large-scale sales related gatherings before 31 March.
Last year's Chengdu fair was cancelled because of COVID-19. Given the uncertain circumstances surrounding the pandemic, it's not entirely sure if this year's show can go ahead as planned on 7-9 April.
If the show can go ahead, the venue will still be Western China (Chengdu) International Expo City.
According to the organiser, this year’s exhibition floor area will be the biggest since the show started in 1995 spanning 215,000 square metres.
