As much as 29,000 litres of alcohol went missing from 25 police stations in Haryana State in northern India, and the police department blamed the rats for having nibbled away all the alcohol.

According to local media reports, the state's police department had confiscated a total of 50,000 litres of country-made liquor, 30,000 litres of wine and 3,000 cans of beer and have them stored in 30 storerooms known as “malkahana” in 30 police stations.

All of them are awaiting trial before being destroyed in the normal protocol. However, among them 29,000 litres from 25 police stations were found missing.

In response to the issue, the police department blamed the rats and said that the rats must have drunk all the liquor.

A probe into the issue is underway.

It should be noted the seized country-made liquor originally stored in plastic bottles had been poured into drums. While the wines and imported liquors were stored in sealed glass bottles.

All these containers cannot be nibbled on by rats and yet the police department pinned the blame on them.
