Vinitaly 2021 is cancelled due to COVID-19, the next edition of the show will take place on 10 to 13 April 2022, but Vinitaly’s scheduled events in China remain on, for now.

This is the second year the organiser Veronafiere has to cancel Vinitaly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The ongoing uncertainties within the national and international scenario and the extended lockdowns have prompted us to reschedule the exhibition definitively to 2022,” said Maurizio Danese, president of Veronafiere in a press release.

“It is a question of making an albeit painful choice of responsibility; yet another compulsory halt that deprives Italian wine of its landmark event for national and international promotion while waiting for the scenario to become more favourable once again,” he added.

Though the main Vinitaly event in Verona is being cancelled this year, Veronafiere’s planned events in China will still go ahead as it stands now.

Vinitaly will return to Chengdu on 3 - 6 April 2021 to hold Vinitaly Chengdu as a satellite event of the Chengdu Wine and Spirits Fair which will open from 7 to 9 April.

Wine to Asia, the new trade fair for the Asia Pacific area jointly organised by Veronafiere and Pacco Communication, will still go ahead in China’s Shenzhen from 8 to 10 June 2021.

Meanwhile, Veronafiere said the OperaWine event scheduled from 19 to 20 June in Verona remains on and the attendance by Wine Spectator has been confirmed.

“The event will focus on restarting the sector, thanks to the involvement of the trade press and national and international operators, and will also act as a point of attraction and a driving force for all the wine companies keen to take part in a b2b calendar that Veronafiere is already preparing,” said CEO of Veronafiere, Giovanni Mantovani.
