Vinexpo Asia could return to Hong Kong as early as 2024, said Rodolphe Lameyse, CEO of the French organiser Vinexposium, as preparation for Vinexpo Asia 2023 at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands enters the final stage.

Speaking at a press briefing held in Marina Bay Sands, Lameyse said Vinexposium will explore alternating between Singapore and Hong Kong. “Vinexpo will be in Singapore for the long term, no doubt,” said Lameyse. “But very likely, we will do even years in Hong Kong and odd years in Singapore.”

He also confirmed that there is a real possibility of Hong Kong hosting Vinexpo Asia as early as 2024.

“I think Vinexpo Asia-Hong Kong can serve the market in China, and Vinexpo Asia and Singapore will serve the regional market of Australasia,” he added

Lameyse will embark on an Asian roadshow soon, and Hong Kong is one of the key stops, in addition to South Korea and Japan.

After a four-year hiatus due to Covid, the Vinexpo will return to Asia to Singapore on 23 to 25 May with USA as the country of honour.

“The USA as the country of honour is very meaningful. It’s a gathering of three wine regions (who are) among the biggest in America,” said Lameyse. The regions comprise California wines, the Oregon wine board and Washington wine who will mark their presence in a joint pavilion and will host a series of masterclasses led by renowned writer Elaine Chukan Brown and Master Sommelier Evan Goldstein.

Lameyse said exhibitors’ response has exceeded their expectations. He confirmed that 1000 wine producers from 42 countries will be exhibiting and 8000 trade vistiors are expected to attend, most of them will be from Singapore and Southeast Asian countries.

He added that Vinexpo Singapore has registered a high level of interest from Mainland China and Hong Kong. “It means there is an appetite, on this side, about sourcing new products and making some purchase again.”

Hong Kong had held Vinexpo Asia shows every other year bwtween 1998 to 2018, the show was arguably the most important wine and spirits trade fair in Asia.

Due to Hong Kong's strict Covid quarantine measures which had lasted much longer than most other countries, Vinexposium announced last May that they will drop Hong Kong and hold Vinepxo Asia 2023 in Singapore.
