Indonesian property and tourism group Vasanta forges ahead with its investment in Château de Grissac in AOC Côtes de Bourg, a four-star hotel with a gourmet bistro-style restaurant is scheduled to open next June.

Established in 2015, Vasanta was named Indonesia’s top ten developer in 2024 with a total developmental land area of 120 hectares.

With its credentials in tourism and lifestyle, the four-star hotel is expected to draw customers from Indonesia and around the world.

The 30-hectare estate had been in an abandoned state before Vasanta acquired it for re-development in February 2022.

“The group was attracted to the appellation which, it feels, is not well-known enough and has some real treasures. It believes in it. It was also drawn to the potential of the Renaissance-style chateau,” wine operation manager Catherine Pollet told French wine industry media Vitisphere.

Since acquiring the property, Vasanta has recruited the service of Derenoncourt Consultants to improve the quality of the wines.

Yields were reduced from 55 to 45 hectolitres per hectare. A premium wine produced to the tune of 20,000 bottles is due to be bottled at the start of 2025 and sold to private customers and restaurants.

The second wine (30,000 bottles) is mostly earmarked for exports, and the rosé (14,000 bottles) for the on-trade.

In May, Sauvignon blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle were double grafted over one hectare and three hectares of old vines were uprooted at the start of June to replant red vines.

In terms of personnel, a technical director was recruited from Domaine de Chevalier last February followed by a viticulture and winery manager. A tractor driver is expected to be hired at the end of June.

At the beginning of next year, between 20 and 30 employees are set to be hired to prepare for the opening of the hotel designed to have 10 suites and a restaurant with 60 sittings.
