China’s Xinjiang Autonomous region has just concluded the 8th China-Eurasia Expo drawing over 1,900 participants from 50 countries, showcasing over 6,000 products including wine and spirits from Eurasian countries.
Themed "New Opportunities of Silk Road, New Vitality for Eurasian Cooperation," the expo ran from 26 to 30 June.
As the land trading route through Central Asia grows with China’s Belt and Road projects, the China-Eurasia Expo will provide good opportunity for Central Asian and East European wine and spirits producers to reach the China market.
Balkan state Serbia participated in the China-Eurasia Expo for the first time. Serbian wine was one of the star products in this year’s show having attracted a lot of attention.
The China-Serbia Free Trade Agreement officially came into effect on 1 July, setting the stage for zero tariffs on Serbian wine within five years.
"This is our first time participating in the China-Eurasia Expo, and we hope to achieve fruitful results here in Xinjiang," said Nebojsa Terzic at the Serbian pavilion.
He believed that the event will further cultivate Chinese consumers' appetite for high-quality Serbian products.

Since the inaugural China-Eurasia Expo in 2011, a total of seven editions have been bringing more than 12,200 exhibitors and 2.16 million visitors from more than 70 countries to Xinjiang.
Covering an area of 140,000 square meters, this year's expo was held at the Xinjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center in the city of Urumqi.
Apart from the four major exhibition zones namely international produce, investment cooperation, special industries and equipment manufacture, there is also a special pavilion for the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ).
Established in November 2023, the Xiangjiang FTZ is the first such establishment in China's northwest border areas, covering Urumqi, Kashgar and Horgos.
From January to April this year, the total import and export volume of the Xinjiang FTZ reached RMB38.5 billion (USD5.4b), accounting for 28 percent of the total import and export volume of Xinjiang.
