China’s Ningxia wine region was buzzing with tourists during the seven-day national day holiday. The region’s wine tourism attractions have received more than 100,000 visitors during the holiday period.

On the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, an area with the highest number of Ningxia’s premium wine producers because of its unique terroir, a new wine tourism attraction called Dulaan Holiday Wine Stroll has attracted over 50,000 tourists.

A major part of Dulaan Holiday Wine Stroll is a wine-themed complex that integrates grape cultivation, wine making, culture, arts and sightseeing.

The project also involves a network of local hotels in welcoming tourists. These hotels have curated various activities including wine therapy and mountainside night concerts to enhance the national day holiday experience to visitors.

Ten kilometers away, another wine tourism attraction called Seeing Helan is also buzzing with tourists, especially at night time.

The attraction features performances that celebrate the culture of the Helan Mountains and Ningxia.

Street performers dressed as historical, mythical or legendary figures from Ningxia, roam the town or star in awe-inspiring shows, and are a highlight for many, particularly the younger generation.

"Tourists from across the country can immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere, local Ningxia culture and the charm of night tours," Pan Chunhui, marketing director of Seeing Helan, told Xinhua news agency.

Pan added that the town received more than 80,000 visitors during the first six days of the national day holiday.

China’s leading online travel booking site Trip.com Group said they have received record breaking daily bookings during the seven-day holiday period.

The company said a significant number of young people are developing a keen interest in tourism in smaller counties, leading to a 40 percent increase in bookings for county level tourism.

Ningxia produced its first bottle of wine in 1984. Today it is one of China's major wine-producing regions and is gaining prominence on the global stage.
