International auction house Sotheby’s is offering a curated selection of 426 bottles from Hong Kong entertainment mogul Albert Yeung’s wine collection on 10 September.

Dubbed “The Majestic Cellar of Dr. Albert Yeung”, the auction will feature top Burgundy and Bordeaux wines with an estimated value of over HKD10 million (USD1.28m).

Highlights include 1990 Romanée-Conti, Montrachet, multiple grands crus from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), and classic vintages from the late Burgundy winemaker Henri Jayer, such as Cros Parantoux and Echezeaux.

The collection also features Pétrus from 1966 to 2011, Le Pin 1982, and a double-magnum of Latour à Pomerol 1947, a bottle seen only once at auction worldwide in the past decade.

“Walking into the cellar, you are greeted by wall upon wall of the greatest names in the world of wine. Truly, there are only icons to be found here. The extreme focus of this incredible cellar is one of the things that sets it apart,” said George Lacey, Head of Wine at Sotheby’s Asia, after visiting Yeung’s cellar.

Yeung, 81, is the boss of Emperor Entertainment, which launched the careers of well known artists Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung and Twins.

Emperor Entertainment is part of the Emperor Group which is involved in real estate as well. This part of Yeung’s business is recently caught in financial difficulties, perhaps this is the reason why his has to sell off his wine collection.
