Japanese drinks giant Asahi Group is aiming at restoring its logistics systems in its home market by February, two months from a cyberattack that rocked its domestic business.

The company has issued a timetable to customers in which the management said they target a recovery of its logistics operations and shipments by February at the latest.

By that point, the company is expecting that shipments will largely back to normal. Orders are still being processed manually.

Asahi is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday 27 November to explain its recovery plan and the results of the group’s probe into the cyberattack.

On 6 October, Asahi reported a systems failure due to a cyber breach, affecting production and distribution in Japan. The company’s factories resumed operations a week later.

Since the system failure, the group has resumed shipments of about 80 percent of its alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in terms of value.

The company has lost its No. 1 position in Japan’s retail beer market to Kirin, driven by a surge in sales of Kirin’s Ichiban Shibori brand, according to Nikkei point-of-sale data.

Kirin has adjusted its shipments to ensure a stable supply as demand grows, while Suntory confirmed receiving numerous distributor inquiries and is scaling production.

Sapporo also reported ramping up shipments to meet stronger-than-expected demand.
