GLOBAL DISTILLERS ISSUED SUSTAINABILITY DECLARATION IN THE BIRTH PLACE OF MAOTAI BAIJIU

Distillers from around the world has issued a sustainability declaration during a forum held in Mautai town of China’s Guizhou province, the birth place of the leading baijiu brand Guizhou Maotai.
Dubbed Global Fine Wines & Spirits Declaration of Chishui River, the declaration was issued during the 2025 Chishui River Forum held recently in Mautai town where Guizhou Maotai is made.
The declaration calls for sustainable development of the global wine and liquor industry. It calls on wine and liquor companies to respect nature and safeguard ecology, uphold quality and inherit culture, advocate rational and health alcohol consumption, as well as to fulfill responsibilities and serve the society.
It also emphasises the need for wine and liquor companies to pursue technological empowerment and integrated development, foster openness, inclusiveness and mutual respect for each other, as well as promote exchanges and mutual learning for coexistence and common prosperity.
The Declaration was issued at a time when the global liquor industry is undergoing significant challenges due to the change in drinking preference led by the younger generation, especially the Gen Z.
The on-going tariff war started by US President Donald Trump adds to the difficulties facing the global wine and spirits industry.
Themed "Interweaving Harmony", the 2025 Chishui River Forum attracted nearly 400 participants from home and abroad, including representatives of renowned wine and liquor companies and industry experts.
The forum proved to be a good opportunity for the trade to exchange views and visions for the development of the global liquor industry.
