Japanese drinks giant Kirin, ownwe of the Mercian Winery, will open a new regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on 1 October, to strengthen the company’s business foundation in the Southeast Asian market.
Kirin said the new company “aims to meet diverse consumer needs, invigorate the market, and drive sustainable growth and competitiveness in this rapidly developing region”.
The company plans to expand its product portfolio and launch new products through its new Southeast Asian regional headquarters.
Until now, Kirin’s operations in the region have been managed through Kirin Holdings Singapore, a subsidiary of the main office in Japan.
“However, to fully leverage the region’s growth potential, Kirin Brewery is establishing a local entity and transferring certain functions to the new company,” it said in a statement.
“This will enable more agile decision-making and allow for faster, more responsive engagement with local consumer needs.”
In May, Kirin CEO Yoshinori Isozaki said the group was expanding its business across Japan, Asia-Pacific and the United States, each of which will account for about one third of the company’s earnings per share.
“In light of geopolitical risks, it is desirable to maintain this balance,” he said.
