Indian wine group Sula Vineyards has sealed a deal to buy Chandon’s local wine production assets in Nashik, Maharashtra, from French luxury wine and spirits giant Moët Hennessy, part of the LVMH conglomerate.
Financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed.
Sula Vineyards, a publicly listed firm, announced the purchase in a regulatory filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The agreement covers the Chandon winery, estate land, buildings and full winemaking infrastructure in Dindori, Nashik – one of India’s top wine-growing regions.
Notably, the deal excludes all Chandon brand assets and intellectual property.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a truly world-class estate,” said Rajeev Samant, founder and CEO of Sula Vineyards.
The 19-acre estate houses a winery with an annual production capacity of 450,000 litres, expandable up to 1.3 million litres.
It also includes a visitor centre and five acres of vineyards, situated in Dindori, widely considered the heart of India’s premium wine grape production.
Moët Hennessy confirmed to local media that the Chandon brand and its full product range will stay within the group’s portfolio.
Indian distribution and marketing for Chandon will continue to be run by Moët Hennessy’s local arm, with the group pledging ongoing support for partners and customers during the transition.
Once the deal closes, Chandon will halt all wine production in India. Sula will use the facility to produce wine under its own existing labels, including Rasa, The Source and Dindori Reserve.
The transaction is set to be completed by the end of the first quarter of Sula’s 2027 financial year, which started in March.
Samant added that the acquisition strengthens Sula’s footprint in India’s premier wine region and will boost its wine tourism business, citing the site’s prime location and scenic setting.
