Singapore Airlines’ A380 pop-up restaurant has proven to be very popular. The airline has announced an additional two days of service in the coming weekend and places have already been sold out. A waiting list is now open for keen diners to try their luck.

Over the weekend, hundreds of diners have already checked in two grounded A380 jets for an unusual pop-up lunch service. The airline will serve dinner as well as lunch in the coming weekend.

Reports from guests who had attended last weekend’s services said the whole experience lasted for about 3 hours.

Diners were urged to arrive at Terminal 3 of Changi Airport early as they had to clear immigration before attending pre-meal activities including batik rose-making workshops and a heritage show.

Guests who had booked a tour of the aircraft were taken through all four cabin classes, including the six swanky suites onboard. They also had a peek at the flight crew rest pods and the cockpit, but photography was not allowed at these areas. The tour was said to have lasted for about 20 minutes.

Diners were surprised by a catwalk-style parade of the crew when they walked down the aisles to their respective gates to prepare for the guests to board.

On board the plane was the most expected part of the experience, as guests have pre-ordered their meals that come with two complimentary alcoholic drinks and free flow of other beverages.

Four cabin classes are available. The most expensive meals in first-class cost SGD642 (USD441) per person, while seats in business class are going for SGD321 and then dropping to SGD96.30 for premium economy and SGD53.50 for economy.

Each class has its choice of special menus, options include the airline’s signature international cuisine, as well as its special Peranakan menu designed by acclaimed Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.

The largest models of the Airbus A380 can normally seat up to 471 passengers, but only about half the aircraft's seats are available for booking because of social distancing measures.
